Seeding Acreage Without Sidewalks
Hydroseeding in Southwest Ranches is a big-lot job by default. The town incorporated in 2000 to avoid annexation and keep its semirural lifestyle, and its rules generally keep homes off lots smaller than an acre. Most properties are an acre or more, with small farms and equestrian ranches mixed in. Seeding an acre with hydroseed is much faster and less costly than laying sod on it.
On the Everglades edge
Southwest Ranches sits on the eastern edge of the Everglades. Archaeologists in the 1970s excavated a Tequesta burial site here that was part of a former Everglades tree island. Ground like this is flat, low and slow to drain. Before seeding, we grade to give water a path off the lawn and toward swales or ditches, and our grading crews handle excavation and trenching for drainage where water has nowhere to go.
No curbs, lots of swales
To keep the area rural, town laws generally prevent streetlights and sidewalks. That means roadside drainage depends on open swales and ditches rather than curb and gutter. Those swales need good grass cover to filter runoff. We regrade washed-out sections, protect the sides with erosion control blankets and hydroseed them.
Horse properties and trails
The town has built many equestrian trails, and paddocks and arenas are common. Heavy hoof traffic wears out turf near gates and along fence lines. We regrade and reseed worn areas and suggest rest periods so the new grass can root before horses return.
Three separate areas
The town is made of three non-contiguous areas, the two largest separated by about 1,455 feet. Neighborhoods such as Sunshine Ranches, Rolling Oaks and Green Meadow each have their own feel, and we schedule work across all of them.
