Seeding Ground That Sits on Rock
Elite Hydroseeding Miami sprays seed, mulch and tackifier on bare ground across Miami-Dade and the south end of Broward County. We seed new home lawns and renovated yards, cover builder lots and commercial sites, stabilize swales and canal banks, put up silt fence and inlet filters, and do the grading and topsoil work a seedbed needs first.
South Florida asks for a different approach than most of the country. There is no winter dormancy to wait out and no frost to plan around. Instead there is a six-month rainy season, a peak hurricane stretch from mid-August through September, and a limestone base that leaves many yards with only a skim of soil. UF/IFAS notes that most Florida soils are sand-based, with little organic matter and a poor ability to hold water and nutrients, and new-construction soil is usually in worse shape than that. A lawn that takes here is a lawn that was given a root zone, a sensible grass and a watering plan.
We also tell people when hydroseeding is the wrong tool. St. Augustinegrass, the grass on many older Miami lawns, is only planted as sod, plugs or sprigs, so we will not pretend we can spray it. On mounds and slopes steeper than about 10 percent, UF/IFAS recommends sod rather than seed; there we either lay a blanket over the seed or suggest sod.
How we work
- We walk the property first and check soil depth, drainage, shade and water source
- We test or probe the soil and tell you what the root zone needs
- Quotes list prep, topsoil, seed, mulch and any erosion or sediment controls on their own lines
- We match seed to the site: bahia for big, low-water areas, seeded bermuda for sunny, busy yards
- We schedule around the wet season and watch the forecast in hurricane months
- You get a written watering and first-mow schedule when we leave
